This is based on the book by Joan Didion and it is not really important that you read the book or even know of it for that matter before seeing the show. The actress, Vanessa Redgrave, simply does an amazing job and many parts of the book the play is based on are not in the actual show. The points and emotions of the grieving process seem to be taken two different ways. The conflicts of the play are hard to reach on stage as it seems they are better fit for the eternal emotions of reading rather then the external of watching an actor. The book and production greatly differ in this area and make it a very different experiences, the acting and writing are amazing, but the question is if the experience can be as felt on stage as from reading the book.
