Xanadu Tickets
These seats are vanishing off the counter in a rage. It is a 1980 musical that is directed by Robert Greenwald. The film is considered as a remake of a film called Down to Earth, starring Rita Hayworth. The movie got its title from the poem "Kubla Khan, or A Vision in a Dream “A Fragment," Composed by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Xanadu is a Chinese province, where Kubla Khan constructs his beautiful garden in the poem. The musical stars Olivia Newton-John, Michael Beck, and Gene Kelly. The music credits go to Newton-John, Cliff Richard, Electric Light Orchestra, and the art-rock band called, The Tubes, based in San Fransisco. Though the film did not do too well, the music became a roaring success. A Broadway musical adaptation was previewed on May 2007, and opened to the audience on July 2007. The Broadway production starred, Kerry Butler as Kira, Cheyenne Jackson as Sonny and Tony Roberts as Danny. Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa made an appearance as the "evil" Muse sisters. The film is considered to be the last motion film, where Gene Kelly starred. The film popularized what came to be called as the Flock of Seagulls haircut. This hair style was worn by drummer Prairie Prince of The Tubes. The film has an animated sequence by former Disney animator, Don Bluth. The show also includes a short appearance by composer, Ira Newborn, who plays the role of a band leader during the song sequence "Dancin". The film is very often taken to be one of three roller-disco films that were released in the years 1979–1980. The other two of the lot are, Skatetown, U.S.A. and Roller Boogie. In 2006, the film served as a source of inspiration for the video by Meck, which featured Leo Sayer's Dance hit "Thunder in My Heart." The track became extremely popular and went on to become the number one hit in the UK Singles Chart. No wonder, Xanadu tickets finished so fast.
