OFF-BROADWAY HIT MAKES IT TO THE GREAT WHITE WAY!

The first show of the 2008/2009 season is here! The hit show about making a Broadway musical comes to the Lyceum Theatre for previews on July 5, 2008 with an official start date of July 17, 2008. [title of show] is a backstage look at what it takes to get a show up and running from conception to opening night. The show originally premiered at the New York Film Festival in 2004 and enjoyed a successful run at off-Broadway’s Vineyard Theatre. The production runs ninety minutes with no intermission.

The musical focuses on two struggling writers and avid Broadway fans who must race to write and submit a show to a theatre festival with the deadline quickly approaching. Along the way, they enlist the help of their two friends to star in and help bring it all together in just three short weeks. This flustered quartet quickly find themselves on a funny, tough and hardworking journey. They literally put everything they have into getting this project completed. Will they finish in time? If so, can their friendship survive? The story basically chronicles the shows own journey of how it came to be. It is a unique idea that will give the audience a new appreciation for what goes into a production. It is an opportunity to experience what we usually don’t see.

The show stars Hunter Bell who also wrote the production and Jeff Bowen who is responsible for the music and lyrics. In the roles of the two recruited friends are Susan Blackwell and Heidi Blikenstaff. All four actors are transferring from the Vineyard Theatre. The off-Broadway production earned Bell and Bowen Obie awards for their unique work. This irresistible production has even generated a recurring video blog about the show’s journey called The [title of show] Show.

[title of show] is a backstage homage to Broadway in the tradition of Kiss Me Kate, A Chorus Line and even Curtains. Come see why Entertainment Weekly is calling this show “Sly, sassy, inspired” Tickets are on sale now for this appealing new musical. If you are interested in a behind the scenes look at a cleverly written show then this is the one for you.
