WHAT’S HAPPENING … BROADWAY! There is a whole lotta something happening in the city that never sleeps! The summer is coming to an end and Broadway is kicking into full gear for a fantastic fall season! There are several must see shows, a few highly anticipated musicals, some impressive stars and as usual to make room for all of the new action a few fond farewells.

Traditionally musicals always make the biggest splash on Broadway and this year is no exception. Three original productions will be premiering within the next few months and they are generating quite the buzz!

First up is 13 a new coming-of-age tale about a New York teen who seems to have it all but then must learn to adjust to the sudden changes in his life. The show is portrayed entirely through the eyes of teenagers and provides some very real emotions and some heartwarming moments. The production opens on October 5, 2008 at the Bernard Jacobs Theatre. The highly anticipated Billy Elliot opens at the Imperial Theatre on November 13, 2008. This musical sensation based on the acclaimed film comes directly from the London stage and features a score by Elton John.

Just in time for the holiday season comes Shrek the Musical a brand new show based on everyone’s favorite ogre. Join Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona and the whole gang of fairy tale creatures as they dazzle you like no one else can! The show opens on December 14, 2008 at the Broadway Theatre.

If musicals aren’t your thing then don’t despair because there are some interesting plays making there way to the Great White Way as well.

Daniel Radcliff of Harry Potter fame comes to the Broadhurst Theatre on September 25, 2008 in the controversial revival of Equus. This riveting play enjoyed a sold-out run in London where it received critical acclaim. The show also stars Tony and Olivier award winner Richard Griffiths The Tony award winning play A Man for all Seasons makes its way to the American Airlines Theatre on October 7, 2008 and stars three time Tony award winner Frank Langella. This revival is based on the story of Sir Thomas More who must choose to stand behind the king or follow his own conscience. It is a gripping tale of being true to ones own beliefs.

A revival of the Arthur Miller drama All My Sons opens on October 16, 2008 at the Schoenfeld Theatre. This production is based on the true story of a businessman who knowingly sold the government faulty airplane parts during World War II with tragic consequences. The show stars two time Academy Award winner Diane Wiest and two time Tony winner John Lithgow as well as actress Katie Holmes in her Broadway debut.

As you can see there is so much to choose from in the next few months so if you are planning a trip be sure to take in a show or two. It is certainly worth it! Also be sure to check back next month for a look at what is happening on Broadway during the holiday season.

Theater Tickets In New York

The core of entertainment in New York City is its ‘Theater District’ – popularly known as Broadway. This is a place that is an amalgamation of cultural diversity and creative talent, unlike anywhere else. The breathtaking productions that are displayed every night have no equal anywhere else. Each year, there are more than 12 million visitors to the theaters in the Theater District. No wonder, theater tickets in New York are always at a premium, and have to be booked months in advance, to avoid disappointment.

With New York attracting visitors and tourists, as flies to mead, and every visitor wanting to enjoy at least one show on Broadway, the dearth of theater tickets in New York does not make procuring them easy. Many tourists give up after trying and failing to procure their tickets.

Info On New York Theaters

Theater tickets in New York for productions on Broadway – a term applied to theaters showing higher productions, which may involve actors from Hollywood – are very high priced and are mostly sold out in advance. Tickets for premium shows are sold out months in advance and are near impossible to purchase at the spur of the moment – as short-term visitors tend to.

Theater tickets in New York for premium Broadway productions are very high priced and are not easily available. However, you can get lucky and may be able to procure tickets known as Partial View tickets, and at very affordable prices. Partial view tickets have an obstructed view of the stage, and you may miss seeing a portion of the stage.

There are other ways of procuring theater tickets in New York . Maybe, the concierge at your hotel can help. Local New Yorkers have their own way of arranging such tickets, but they may come at a price. This may come as news to the visitors, but it may be possible to put your hands on theater tickets by simply visiting the theater and expecting some ‘no shows.’ Groups could have people dropping out at the last moment, and may have tickets, which you can pick up at face value.

Saturday nights are not good nights to expect to pick up extra tickets. Monday night may be a great night, or a matinee show on Wednesday may be a good time to expect to obtain Broadway tickets for premium shows and at affordable prices.

There are other ways of picking up theater tickets in New York for shows on Broadway, such as through re-sale forums, through eBay, and through ticket brokers. The first two are risky affairs, as you can be scammed with tickets that are not genuine. There are reliable and reputed brokers who can arrange tickets for ‘hot’ productions with premium seats. Of course, you have to pay premium prices for such tickets.

Theaters have many scalpers on the streets around them. You should stay away from such people, who are nothing but con men of the best kind. Your best bet is the reputed brokers or agencies.
