Pirate Queen Tickets
A NEW MUSICAL JOURNEY FROM THE CREATORS OF LES MISERABLES!
Opening this April on Broadway at the Hilton Theatre is a musical adventure of epic proportion. The Pirate Queen is based on the real life story of the legendary Irish Chieftain Grace O’Malley. This production brings to the stage an amazing story, a unique score and a very inspirational and unforgettable character. It is a love story that truly withstands the test of time. It features beautifully written music intertwined with the mesmerizing traditions of classic Irish song and dance.
The production centers around the amazing O’Malley and the interesting life she led as a pirate, chieftain, lover and mother in 16th century Ireland. She is a strong figure in both Irish and women’s history, and her story comes through perfectly on the stage. She was one of the last Irish clan leaders to resist the English take over of Gaelic Ireland. She was a fierce woman who was not afraid to fight for what she believed in. To protect her people and to spare her one true love she must confront another very powerful woman of that era; her rival Queen Elizabeth I of England. The conflict between the two creates a very prominent backdrop for the story.
This fantastic show was written by the brilliant minds of Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schonberg and Richard Malthy, Jr. Boublil and Schonberg are no strangers to Broadway success considering another one of their famous collaborations, Les Miz, originally ran for 6,680 performances, and is currently enjoying a sensational revival on the Great White Way. Their talent is limitless with their inimitable style. They have the ability to tell a great story with each scene somehow flowing seamlessly into the next. Another plus for this production is that it was commissioned and is being produced by Moya Doherty and John McClogan; the same team that brought Riverdance to the forefront. The cast is lead by Stephanie J. Block in the role of the heroine. Ms. Block earned critical-acclaim for her performance as Liza Minnelli, her Broadway debut, in The Boy from Oz. She has also starred as Elphaba in the national tour of Wicked where she played to sold out audiences each performance. She brings much experience and a strong stage presence to this ensemble.
The Pirate Queen is a timeless love story above all else, but also incorporates O’Malley’s personal struggles along with her ongoing battle with the Queen of England. The plots are tangled into one extraordinary musical. The creators, producers, cast, choreography and score are all just the right blend for one magical hit. This show is sure to experience a long life on Broadway.
