NATHAN LANE RETURNS TO BROADWAY!

Broadway favorite Nathan Lane is set to take the stage as the Commander and Chief in a new political comedy by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet. The world premiere of November is scheduled to begin previews this holiday season on December 20, 2007 with an official start date of January 17, 2008 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The show also stars Laurie Metcalf as a presidential aide. This much anticipated production has the makings to become another Broadway success.

This political comedy is set just days before a major presidential election and focuses on the lives of five characters. The production details the mishaps and adventures of a day in the life of the fictitious president Charles Smith as he tries to navigate his way through the White House. The plot focuses in on the different views about civil marriages, gambling, lesbians, American Indians, presidential libraries, pardons and campaign contributions all described with a comical twist.

November has a spectacular cast and creative team that bring this production to life. The ensemble is extremely talented and is lead by a theatrical powerhouse. A show usually can’t miss when Tony award winner Lane takes the stage. He gained critical acclaim, audience approval and a Tony award for Best Actor as Max Bialystock in the popular 2001 production of The Producers. A few years later he found success again as Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple where he starred opposite his Producers sidekick Matthew Brodderick. He was most recently seen on Broadway in 2006 in the title role of Butley. Lane is also known for his many film roles including The Birdcage and he has voiced the popular characters The Lion King and Stuart Little. He also starred in the 2005 movie adaptation of The Producers reprising his award winning role. The show also stars Laurie Metcalf who is probably best known for her three time Emmy winning portrayal of Jackie on the hit sitcom Roseanne and has most recently appeared in Desperate Housewives.

The play was written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Mamet. He is known for his thought provoking works that contain his unique dialogue that is often written for impact and effect. His writing takes on a world of its own and his style is so different that it is sometimes referred to as ‘Mametspeak”. He was awarded the Pulitzer in 1984 for Glengarry Glen Ross and some of his other plays include Speed-the-Plow and Oleanna. He has also penned several screenplays including The Verdict and The Untouchables. The production is under the direction of Tony award winner Joe Mantello who previously directed Lane in The Odd Couple and Love! Valour! Compassion!

With all of the heavy -hitting talent surrounding this play it is hard to believe that this show could miss. November is the comedy of the season that shouldn’t be missed. If you are a fan of Lane then this is certainly your show!
