WORLD PREMIERE OF NEW MUSICAL!

This new epic romance opened at the Biltmore Theatre in April. It is based on the lives of the intellectual German American composer Kurt Weill and a lusty girl from the streets of Vienna, Lotte Lenya, who becomes his muse and eventually his wife. LoveMusik spans the length of twenty-five years and takes place in Berlin, Paris, Broadway and Hollywood.

The story centers on this intense man and his love for one woman. It recreates the tale of this extremely complicated couple. The show is based on Weill’s songs that Lenya made famous. Weill was a leading composer for the stage up until his death in 1950. His most well-known song was probably “Mack the Knife” but others included “Lost in the Stars” from the show of the same name and “September Song.” Through the score of this production the audience relives their love story and comes to understand how an unlikely couple can come to inspire each other.

The cast is lead by two Tony award winning actors; Michael Cerveris and Donna Murphy. These two bring with them much talent and theater experience. Cerveris, in the role of Kurt Weill, won a Tony award in 2004 for his portrayal of John Wilkes Booth in Assasins, and was also nominated for his work as the title character in the revival of Sweeny Todd. He made his Broadway debut in 1993 in The Who’s Tommy. Two time Tony award winner Donna Murphy, in the role of Lotte Lenya, is certainly a critic favorite. She won critical acclaim as well as a Tony award in 1994 for her role as Fosca in Stephen Sondheim’s Passions. She also took home the Tony in 1996 for her role as Anna in The King and I. Both of these characters step into their roles and bring a unique chemistry to the characters.

This April LoveMusik will debut in its world premiere. It is a powerful story of passion, love, and inspiration. It takes place over a quarter of a century and brings the audience right into the personal trials and tribulations of one very complex couple. This production is on a limited engagement and is scheduled to close on June 17, 2007.

LoveMusik tickets are selling on average for $60.00 with premium seating LoveMusik tickets selling around $100.00. The Biltmore Theatre has a weekly seating capacity of 4,952 and sells out on average 3,801 per eight show week.
