Nathan Lane - one of the best comics in theater - appears in the title role in this dark comedy. The critically acclaimed play. This play on Broadway is a revival of the dark comedy, where the life of the literature professor, Butley, spirals out of control. This is the story of a university professor who shares his office and his flat with his former pupil. It is a story of the ultimate breakdown of his marriage, and it is a story of the breakdown of his friendship with his live-in lover, all in one day. Added to the mix is petty university politics.
The professor loses both, his wife and his lover, the same day. His estranged wife announces her intention to marry a mutual friend. His live-in lover and office mate moves out to join another man. And to top it all, one of his colleague, whom he ill-respects, has just published her book - a book 20 years in the making. Suddenly, the professor finds his life crumbling all around him.
Faced with the shock of both, his wife and lover leaving him, Butley uses his acid wit to fight for his life.
This Simon Gray written, Nicholas Martin directed play previewed on October 5, 2006, and opened on October 25, 2006 at the Booth Theater, and is performing for a very limited time until January 14, 2007.
The Theater
The Booth Theater, where the play, Butley, is showing, was built in 1913 for Lee Shubert and Winthrop Ames, the producer. This Henry B. Herts designed theater was named for Edwin Booth, a famed 19th century American actor, and the brother of the infamous John Wilkes Booth.
This 783 seat theater was the smaller of the pair of theaters coming up back-to-back together, the other being the Shubert Theater. The Booth Theater, along with its twin, display the last surviving example of Graffito - a drawing or inscription made on a wall.
After the renovations and restoration carried out by designer Melanie Kahane in 1979, the Booth Theater now has 766 seats, with 502 in the orchestra and 252 in the mezzanine, among others.
The Show Tickets
With a very short time remaining for the play, the Butley tickets are, obviously, difficult to procure. If you wish to avoid the box office line, there are various other sources to buy your Butley tickets from. People are known to buy tickets for the shows on Broadway from dubious sources.
These sources are the various re-sale forums and sites, such as eBay. People put their tickets for re-sale on such sites, but you cannot be sure whether the tickets are genuine or not. People are also known to buy tickets from scalpers, usually found near the theater. Such sources for your Butley tickets are risky.
You should approach genuine ticket brokers, such as Reedstickets.com, for your Butley tickets for the show you wish to see. Contact our competent staff and they will ensure that your Butley tickets for the show of your choice is delivered to your door.
